Netflix In New Streaming Deal With Disney

Netflix and Disney-ABC Television Group have reached a new licensing agreement that will allow Netflix to stream episodes from the ABC Television Network, Disney Channel and ABC Family.

Ted-Sarandos-Netflix Under terms of the agreement, Netflix will not be allowed to stream current shows earlier than 15 days after the initial broadcast.

Disney Still In Google TV Talks

Don’t hold your breath, and skip crossing your fingers, too, since you’ll likely need your digits for something else before an agreement’s reached.  But it looks possible that Google TV will still be able to strike a deal with at least one major network, as a Disney exec has admitted that discussions are taking place.

Gowalla Checks-In With Disney

Location-based social network Gowalla has formed a new partnership with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Starting today, visitors to the parks can engage with others through custom Disney Gowalla pages and Passport Stamps.

Disney Acquires Social Gaming Company Playdom

Last week, rumors surfaced that Disney was in late stage acquisition talks with social game company Playdom. Today, Disney has announced that it has indeed agreed to acquire it.

Playdom shareholders will receive total consideration of $563.2 million, subject to certain conditions, and a performance-linked earn-out of up to $200 million.

Google Experiences Hiccup in LA Google Apps Implementation

MarketWatch reports that Google has missed a deadline for the implementation of Google Apps in the city of Los Angeles, due mainly to security concerns expressed by the LAPD. This has got to be an unwelcome snag for Google, who is spending a great deal of time marketing Google Apps for cloud computing.

Disney Reportedly Acquires Tapulous, Makers of Tap Tap Revenge

TechCrunch is reporting that Disney has acquired Tapulous, the makers of popular iPhone game Tap Tap Revenge. Very few details are given around this news or its source, but the publication says Tapulous founder Bart Decrem, who will join Disney as a VP.

Disney Offers Host Of Apps For iPad

Disney has announced it will offer applications from all of its businesses on Apple’s new iPad, including an ABC Player app.

The new ABC Player app will allow iPad users to watch free, ad-supported episodes of 20 ABC programs via a Wi-Fi connection. iPad users will also be able to buy downloads of episodes through the iTunes store.

Google May Invest In Chinese Media/Ad Firm

A little less than a month ago, Google announced that it might shut down Google.cn and its offices in China.  The search giant may not be giving up on the country entirely, however, as a new report has indicated that it’s part of a group attempting to invest in a large Chinese media and advertising company.

Disney Rolls Out iPhone App

The app features Disney content including characters, music, video and games. Disney says content in the app will be updated regularly with the latest news and entertainment from the company.

The new Disney App offers a "Click2Life" feature, which works by allowing iPhone users to take pictures of images from Disney.com that will come to life within the app and turn into a 3D image.

Netflix Now Streaming ABC Shows

Netflix announced today an agreement with Disney-ABC Television Group to stream a number of the broadcasters TV shows.

Netflix will now begin streaming the first five seasons of "Lost," seasons four and five of "Desperate Housewives," season five of "Grey’s Anatomy," and seasons one and two of "Legend of the Seeker." Many of the episodes, including the first four seasons of "Lost" are now available on Netflix. The rest will be available in the coming months, beginning in September.

Disney Plans To Charge For Online Content

Walt Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger says the company has plans to offer a variety of its content, including movies, TV shows and games online for a fee.

"The notion of going online at some point as a subscribe-to, robust entertainment experience is pretty attractive to us," Iger said. "We are developing such an experience."

Iger made the comments Wednesday at Fortune magazine’s Brainstorm: Tech conference.

ESPN To Launch Three More Local Sites

ESPN announced today it will introduce three new city specific sports sites in the coming months, with Dallas, Los Angeles and New York joining its local Chicago effort.

ESPNDallas.com will launch this fall, followed by ESPNNewYork.com and ESPNLosAngles.com in the first half of 2010. Like ESPNChicago.com, each site will feature an integrated home for sports news, online video and audio.

Disney Launches Site Offering Theme Park Merchandise

Walt Disney Co. has launched a new websites offering select merchandise from Disney’s domestic theme parks and resorts.

The new site, DisneyStore.com replaces the former site DisneyShopping.com. Visitors to DisneyStore.com can browse and buy more than 100 products previously available only at Disney theme parks.

Offerings include customizable novelty ears, birthday gifts, exclusive art, collectibles, toys and plush items. Disney says it will continue to expand its selection throughout the year.

Disney Acquires A Stake In Hulu

Disney has announced it has acquired a stake in Hulu that is thought to be as high as 30% according to the folks over at Mashable. Disney has now joined NBC Universal and News Corp. in this venture.

The momentum this gives the video site is very real as it looks to jump on a position in the market that perhaps YouTube may be too late to the game on. YouTube has just started to strike deals with the major media producers and their lineup of available programs to watch is not as impressive as Hulu’s.

D23 refers to the year 1923 when Disney first began. Disney says the site will be the premier online destination for Disney fans. The site features breaking news, exclusive stories, blogs, historical retrospectives, a collectibles boutique, and special event information.
