NC Town Ready, Waiting For Google’s “Farms”

Stereotypes would have you believe that the Appalachian region is home to nothing other than trees, coalmines, and inbred banjo players.  Google’s not buying into those stereotypes, however, and more details are emerging about the search engine giant’s plans to open a server farm in Lenoir, North Carolina.

Should we Kill the Term “White Paper”?
Does using the words “white paper” create a negative picture in your mind?

Is the term overused?

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of teaching a teleclass with Bob Bly, an author of more than 70 books on writing and marketing.

One student asked the question, “Does it always make sense to call a white paper a white paper?

This is a very good and important question. It spawns a number of other questions.

Bob’s answer was, “I don’t like using the term white paper.”

Is all the fuss about Twitter much ado about nothing, as Shakespeare put it?

NCAA Tournament Coverage – Poor Usability

Why is it so difficult for me to get coverage of the college basketball tournament while I’m at work?

After navigating the mess at cbs.sportsline.com to try to watch the games over the live internet feed, (they make it almost impossible to find the link for to watch the games live.) I’ve come to find out that the video for whatever reason doesn’t even work on my Linux box, not to mention crashed my browser several times. I’ve also heard a friend say he can’t get the video working on Firefox either for Windows. He had to use Internet Explorer. HELLO? I wasn’t even aware people still used Internet Explorer.

CEO: Google Is Like Your Ex – Cute, But Insane

Well, he didn’t put it exactly like that, but Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer didn’t pull any punches in regard to Google during an appearance in front of 450 Stanford University business and engineering students yesterday. In addition to calling Google’s employee growth-rate "insane," and its non-search products "cute," Ballmer implied Google was a one-trick pony.

(And we’ll have some class and not mention the shellacking Stanford took in the NCAA tournament by Louisville. Oops, guess we just kind of did.)

When it receives a complaint from content owners regarding copyrighted videos, YouTube is usually pretty quick to comply with regulations and pull down the infringing clips. As it turns out, those clips may still be available for viewing and/or download on YouTube’s servers.

The news doesn’t seem to be getting any better for YouTube.
