Michael Vick: Dog Is “Well Cared For”

  • Michael Vick has released a statement about his family’s new pet, saying the dog is well cared for and that while he understands the public’s concern, he just wants to ensure that his children are taught the proper way to treat an animal…which can’t be a bad thing.

“I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family’s decision to care for a pet,” Vick said. “As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family.”

Vick, who plead guilty to felony charges in 2007 after it was revealed he took part in an illegal dog-fighting ring, has been in the news recently after revealing that he’s nearly broke, having filed for bankruptcy in 2008. Now, the headlines are equally unflattering, as the news that he is responsible for a dog is upsetting to fans and activists alike.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback says he’s turning over a new leaf to “break the cycle”, however, and deserves a chance to prove himself after serving time in prison and on probation.

“I’m not a psychopath. I’m not crazy. I’m a human being,” Vick once told The Associated Press about wanting to own a dog. “What happened in my past and what I did in the culture I grew up in doesn’t shape and mold me as the person I am now.”
