Justin Bieber made an offhand remark during an interview with L.A. radio station Power 106 recently that indicated he’d be quitting the music business, getting fans all riled up.

“Um, I’m actually, I’m retiring man, I’m retiring, just going to take some time. I think I’m probably going to quit music,” Bieber said.

The 19-year old has made a similar threat before in 2012, when he said he’d entertained thoughts of leaving the spotlight in order to have a “normal” life.

“I got to the point where I thought, ‘I don’t want to do this. I just want to be normal.’ It was difficult because I’d never gone through anything like that. Usher was like, ‘Prepare to have this for the rest of your career because it’s not going to stop.’ He’s gone through some stuff and most artists go through their fair share of bull. That was just my first time.”

Bieber’s reps have had no comment and many think he was just joking, but after the tabloid-headline-making year he’s had, it wouldn’t be too much of a shock if he did want to pursue a quieter life. Of course, he won’t be doing anything until after the release of his new album, Journals, on the 23rd.
