Facebook Celebrates 10 Billion Photos

Cupcakes are in order

One doesn’t associate photos with Facebook—sure, there are always those embarrassing ones of politician kids popping up—primarily it’s always been a social network. Well, the social network reported last night that it stores more photos than Flickr and Photobucket combined.

About 10 billion, which, if measured in cupcakes, says Facebook engineer Doug Beaver, would line up half-way to the moon. That’s how engineers throw down when they celebrate a milestone: cupcakes. Cupcakes, dog.

Photobook and Flickr—sites dedicated to photos—only have pulled in about six and two billion photos, respectively. While Facebook handles 10 billion, Beaver’s happy to proudly drop digits the way a proud new Corvette owner would: Facebook stores four sizes of the images, for 40 billion files stored on Facebook servers; 2-3 terabytes of photos are uploaded daily, equaling over a petabyte of total storage; that’s 300 images served per second and 15 billion photo images per day.

6.2 liter, 376 cubic inch supercharged LS9 V-8 makes 638 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque, you know that I ain’t braggin’.

It’s all good for now. According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, payments on all that storage don’t really come due until sometime in 2011, when he plans to have actually have a business model.

Facebook Photos

Take all the meaningless drunken low quality phone 'snaps' out of Facebook and what are you left with.

I totally agree......

I totally agree......

Facebook

Facebook is one of the most successful social network in the web. I would truly say it is much accessible and user friendly than any others.
