comScore: Facebook Matches MySpace

International traffic levels draw even

News Corp still has one thing to brag about: MySpace remains more popular than Facebook in the U.S.  But on an international level, the social network known for a blinding amount of glitter and a bunch of annoying bands seems to have been caught by Mark Zuckerberg's baby.

comScore statistics indicate that Facebook drew even with MySpace in April.  At that point, the networks interested about 115 million users each.  If we're allowed mentally to extend the growth lines through today, Facebook's likely closer to 120 million, and MySpace has almost undoubtedly been left behind.

Keep an eye out for official global "nail in the coffin" reports, then.  Since different research firms come up with varying figures, they'll trickle in for a while, making MySpace's position look quite bad.

Facebook still has a great deal of work ahead of it, though, as Michael Arrington reports, "Facebook added 75 million monthly uniques over the last twelve month[s], but just 13 million of those visitors are located in the U.S.  MySpace added 5 million U.S. uniques during that period - at this rate it will take 4+ years for Facebook to catch up to MySpace in the U.S. market."

Neither company has either publicly celebrated or denied comScore's report so far.
