Liz Lawley wonders why I hyped up all things Microsoft when I worked there, but now don’t get excited anymore.

She missed that I was only talking about Internet stuff that goes in the Web browser, not stuff that Microsoft is more traditionally known for like Windows and Xbox and all that.

Hard drive titan Seagate says that increasing hard disk densities could mean 4,000 hours of video on your PC, or TiVo, by 2009.

Don Dodge wrote a couple of great articles recently titled “Why Startups Innovate While Big Companies Incrementally Improve” and “What do the PC, Mac and Xbox All Have In Common“.

Phil Waligora, who works at Microsoft, is watching Steve Jobs’ keynote (I’m not, but am trying to check in here and there) and calls me out, wondering if I’ll say the just announced AppleTV is innovative.

Amazon.com had a record-breaking holiday season. Their 12th season surpassed all previous sales records according to the company. The busiest day of the holiday season was December 11. On that day customer orders were over 4 million.

Microsoft has announced plans to offer up video content to Xbox users in standard and high definition formats beginning November 22, the one-year anniversary of the Xbox 360 launch. This move makes the Xbox 360 the first gaming console to offer television and movie content as a direct download to users.

Microsoft’s Gamerscore blog has a response to that crap-filled Sony chart that suggested the PS3 was somehow cheaper than the Xbox 360.

There’s a lot of grandstanding going on in the game console industry. Nintendo brags about its history of innovation; Microsoft is smug about its lead over the competition; and Sony says its rep alone will carry PS3. But Sony may be surprised to learn its chief rivals are holding hands and shouting things like “thief!” and “loser!”

Xbox Vice President Peter Moore admitted to the Washington Post on Thursday what has been obvious all week:

Guys are much more likely to form friendships with strangers they meet in online gaming than women, who prefer to solo game instead.

While I was at dinner tonight with the LiveSide guys Jason Bogovich called, his voice full of excitement.

It’s been five months since the Xbox 360 landed in short supply just in time Christmas. Many of those who scrambled to get their hands on one, paying thousands on eBay to ensure a Yuletide joy-in-the-box, probably never dreamed they’d be on their fourth console by May.

I have been on the Web for 12 years now and the Internet for many more, going all the way back to BBSs, CompuServe and Genie.

Although it still isn’t ready for prime time, Microsoft did give game developers and C# programmers the chance to take a peek at the first pre-release of the XNA Build at the Game Developers Conference last month.

Faced with one of the highest obesity rates in the country, West Virginia has launched a program to place a physically active video game in over 750 public schools. No word yet as to whether state buffet restaurants will be forced to put them in their lobbies (I’m talkin’ to you, Barboursville!).
