Disney/ABC and Nielsen Partner on Innovative TV Show iPad App

Disney/ABC and Nielsen have announced a new iPad app. The app is the first to be built on Nielsen’s new Media-Sync Platform, and uses audio watermarks to sync mobile devices to TV Programming. 

Google Voice Gets New Android Widgets
Google has announced the launch of some new Android widgets for Google Voice. The widgets are available in an update to the Google Voice Android app. 

The widgets are designed to give users immediate access to their Google Voice inbox and settings from the home screen.

Salesforce Announces Chatter Mobile

Salesforce has announced a mobile version of Chatter, its enterprise social networking platform. The product will be available for the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Android and Blackberry.

The company points out that people who use Facebook through a mobile device are twice as active on the site than non-mobile users (according to IDC), and that mobile devices are beconing "the new enterprise desktop" for over 50% of the workforce. With these things in mind, Chatter Mobile should be a significant part of Chatter’s future. 

Kobo Emerges as the E-Reading App for the Samsung Galaxy Tab

Samsung has unveiled its Galaxy Tab tablet device, and Kobo announced that it is supplying the e-reader technology for it.

"After much speculation, the new Samsung GALAXY Tab has just been announced by Samsung’s CEO in Berlin, and Kobo is THE eReading application powering the ‘Readers Hub’ on the new Android tablet," says Kobo. "This partnership is an industry first for Kobo and Samsung, offering the first eReading experience on an Android Tablet to readers worldwide."

Justin.tv Broadcasting Comes to Android

Justin.tv has a new Android app for broadcasting live video. This competes with services like UStream and Qik. Unfortunately, it doesn’t let you simply watch Justin.tv content like the iPhone app does. Perhaps that will come later. This is the first Android app Justin.tv has offered.

Booyah Utilizes Facebook Places for Standalone App

Booyah, makers of the check-in app/game MyTown, have unveiled a new game today, and it is is the first standalone app to utilize the recently launched Facebook Places API.

"In addition to being the first app built exclusively for Facebook Places, it is the only app that accesses Facebook Search," says Booyah.

Google Updates iPhone App with Notifications

Google announced today that it has updated its Google Mobile iPhone app to push notifications from users’ Google accounts to their phones. Now, an icon badge will show when you’ve got new mail in Gmail or when a reminder for a Google Calendar event comes up.

The badge will appear right on the home screen.

"We’ve also added spiffy features to get you information faster — when looking for flight info, weather, stock quotes or currency conversion you’ll see answers before you even hit ‘Search’," says Google engineering manager David Singleton.

AT&T Expands myWireless Mobile App to More Android Devices

AT&T is expanding the availability of its myWireless Mobile app to a couple of new Android devices – the Samsung Captivate and the HTC Aria. The app lets wireless subscribers manage their accounts from their mobile devices.

The app give users access to bill payment, voice and data usage information, the ability to add or remove features and plans, and paperless billing.

Symantec Finds Trojan in Android App That Broadcasts Phone Location

Symantec detected a trojan within an Android game, which is secretly uploading GPS user location information. A representative for the company tells WebProNews that while the particular instance doesn’t really represent a major security threat, "it does demonstrate how new mobile threats are emerging and evolving."

iPhone and iPad Apps About To Get More Integrated with Facebook

Facebook has launched a new software development kit (SDK) for Apple’s iOS operating system, which powers the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. This is an update from the previous SDK launched for the iPhone last March.

"With today’s update we’ll have SDKs for both iOS and Android devices that provide an even easier way for mobile app developers to go social," a Facebook representative tells WebProNews.

AT&T Launches iPhone App for U-Verse

AT&T has launched a U-Verse iPhone app, which gives U-verse subscribers the ability to download and watch TV shows on their phones.

The company says it is the first to provide an integrated mobile app that lets you manage your DVR and download/watch select shows. The app replaces the Mobile Remote Access for iPhone app.

Gowalla Launches OAuth-Based Check In API

Gowalla has announced the launch of its new Check in API. This is different than the Gowalla API, which was launched in February, which first let developers tap into Gowalla data for their apps.

"With today’s release, we’re expanding what’s possible, enabling your applications to create check-ins on behalf of users," the company says. It utilizes OAuth 2.0 to do so.
