Apple Packs New Version of Safari with Extensions

Apple released the latest version of its Safari web browser today, version 5.0.1. The release comes with Safari Extensions and the Safari Extensions Gallery.

While extensions became available in Safari 5 lat month for developers, the gallery makes them available to users. A few organizations that have already created extensions for the browser include: Amazon, Bing, Major League Baseball, the New York Times, and Twitter.

Amazon Launches Potentially Powerful Facebook Integration

Amazon has launched a new feature in beta, which lets you tap into your Facebook network. The feature says it lets you, "Connect to Facebook to get Amazon recommendations for you and discover your friends’ Favorites and Likes".

Booyah Launches Check-Ins for Products in MyTown

Booyah, one of the companies gaining buzz in the check-in service space, has announced a new product check-in feature for its MyTown game/service.

Email Still Beats Social Networks for E-Commerce

A new report from Econsultancy suggests that email still beats social networks when it comes to marketing for e-commerce. The report says that over a third (37%) of consumers don’t use a social networking site, and that those who have become a "fan" or "friend" of a company or brand online are still in the minority.

Amazon’s Earnings Show Kindle Doing Very Well for the Company

Amazon sold three times as many Kindle books in the first half of 2010 as it did in the first half of 2009.  It was revealed earlier this week that Amazon is now selling more Kindle books than hardcover books. This was reiterated in the company’s earnings announcement today.

Amazon Announces Q2 Sales of $6.57 billion

Amazon announced its second quarter earnings today. Net sales were up 41% at $6.57 billion, compared with $4.65 billion in the second quarter of ’09.

"Excluding the $48 million unfavorable impact from year-over-year changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter, net sales would have grown 42% compared with second quarter 2009," the company said.

eBay Talks Upcoming Updates for Sellers

eBay announced its upcoming seller updates for the fall. eBay’s Dinesh Lathi says the updates will help sellers take advantage of increased holiday traffic, maximize sales, and streamline their operations. "As promised, we’re continuing to consolidate changes that impact your selling into two or three releases per year with lead time to adapt," he says.

eBay Turns to Microsoft for Cloud Computing

Microsoft and eBay made a joint announcement this morning, declaring that eBay will be one of Microsoft’s first customers for its Windows Azure cloud computing platform appliance. eBay will incorporate Azure into two of its data centers.

eBay Ends AdCommerce PPC Ads on eBay.com and eBay.ca

Starting on August 4th, eBay will be retiring its AdCommerce placements on eBay.com and eBay.ca. It will continue to offer the service in Europe and Australia.

This is a program that allowed eBay sellers to purchase pay-per-click ads on search result pages linking to their eBay stores and listings.

Alibaba Buys Vendio, Gains 80,000 eBay, Amazon Sellers

Alibaba.com has announced its acquisition of Vendio, a multi-channel e-commerce company offering solutions for small businesses that let them sell through channels such as eBay, Amazon, and their own Vendio-supported stores.

Through the acquisition, Alibaba is gaining access to over 80,000 targeted small businesses in the U.S. and can direct them to Alibaba’s own Aliexpress wholesale transaction platform.

Last month we saw MasterCard make a move to start gunning for PayPal. Now it’s Visa. Visa has launched a new payments service called PayClick in Australia, but reportedly has "a view" for global markets.

Amazon Against Post Office Ending Saturday Mail Delivery. Netflix Ok With it.

As you may know, there is talk that the U.S. Postal Service could end mail delivery on Saturdays. Internet companies that ship items to consumers don’t all have the same opinion on this matter, as is evidenced by comments from Amazon and Netflix.

What Coupon Searchers are Looking For

Retailers generated nearly $31 million in online coupon sales through RetailMeNot.com in May, according to the site. That’s over a 42% increase compared to the same time last year, and that’s just through RetailMeNot.

The company has released a report looking at coupon usage and search behavior in the month of May. RetailMeNot says it’s in a unique position to track trends in the coupon industry, as it is the most highly trafficked coupon site and the only site with over 450,000 coupons for both online and in-store offers.

TheFind.com Says It Has Overtaken Yahoo in Comparison Shopping Visits

Shopping search site TheFind announced today that it has overtaken Yahoo Shopping as the #2 site in the category (comparison shopping engines), citing comScore‘s numbers.

TheFind also says it has grown by 175% year-over-year according to ChannelAdvisor.

Newspapers Launch eBay Competitor Boocoo to Help Boost Revenues

Over 300 newspapers have joined together with Ranger Data Technologies to launch a new online auction site called Boocoo that would compete with eBay, and hopefully boost newspapers’ revenues. The auction site puts an emphasis on local auctions.

Google Introduces New Version of Commerce Search

Google has announced the launch of Commerce Search 2.0 for retailers in the United States and the United Kingdom. This is a new version that the company says provides a better online experience for shoppers, as well as greater control, while providing immediate ROI for retailers.

Google Commerce Search originally launched back in November. It was kind of like Google Site Search, specifically tailored to e-commerce and product sites.
