The town of Wasco, California, has a clown problem.
Someone — or maybe more than one person — is having fun at the expense of the folks of Wasco. Calling himself the “Wasco clown”, the prankster dons creepy-looking clown attire and roams the streets of the town at night, pausing to take pictures in neighborhoods and post them to Instagram and Twitter.
“Some of the residents go in cars searching for him. They have flashlights and try to spot him in neighborhoods after he posts to Twitter,” said Wasco resident Noah Sanchez.
The folks of Wasco are not sure if they are dealing with just one person, but they do know that the clown costume changes from time to time. Therefore, it could be more than one clown, or someone who wears different costumes at different times.
“Yesterday they were saying there were two then they were trying to say like seven, but I don’t know,” sas Kevin Cabello of Wasco.
Whoever he is, the clown has ben keeping the people of Wasco on their toes since October 1.

But, wait. If all this seems familiar to you, you are not alone. Back in March of this year, there was a very similar rash of evil clown sightings in Staten Island, New York. That turned out to be the work of an independent film company hyping an upcoming horror movie production they were working on.
But this one has taken a different turn. Perhaps they were copycat pranksters, but there have been police reports of people dressed as clowns, holding weapons and chasing people.
One clown has come forward, claiming to be the original “Wasco clown” and says that the whole thing is part of a year-long photography project his wife is doing. He claims to have no association or affiliation with anyone dressed as a clown and holding a weapon.
