  • Waitress Dayna Morales has been suspended from her job at Gallop Asian Bistro Restaurant while an investigation is conducted into whether or not she faked an anti-gay message on a customer’s receipt.

Morales–who is gay–says when she came back to the table after a couple she had been serving left, she found her copy of their receipt signed with a nasty note rather than a tip.

“I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life,” the receipt says. A photo of it quickly went viral last month, but the couple has come forward and says they not only support gay rights, but that the handwriting on the receipt doesn’t match either of theirs. They also provided a copy of their bank statement and their receipt, which shows they were charged a total of $111.55, which included an $18.00 tip on their $93.55 tab. Morales denies that she wrote anything on the receipt and says it’s not her handwriting, either.

Some of Morales’ coworkers say that she’s been caught in lies before; she told them once that she shaved her head because she had cancer, but later recanted the story. She also claimed that Superstorm Sandy severely damaged her home and sent a boat into her living room, but when friends stopped by to check on her, they found only minor damage to the home’s carpet.

“Every story she comes up with has a lie,” said coworker Julie Howat. “It’s like she’s taking it to a whole other level. Now you’re lying to people to get their money. It’s not even for sympathy now.”

Indeed, Morales has received $1,700 from supporters around the country who were outraged when her story went viral. Morales, an ex-Marine, says she donated the funds to the Wounded Warriors Project.
