It’s almost time for the Super Bowl and football fans around the country are getting ready for the big game. While many are wiping down their big screens and stocking up on beer, some are stressing about their game day snacks. A recent Velveeta cheese shortage could mean that your Super Bowl party will be without your favorite cheesy dip or snack.
Many stores have not received shipments of Velveeta cheese in months and say that their inventories are running low. Both the 8oz and 16oz package sizes are in short supply in grocery stores across the United States and many stores are fearing that they will run out completely before game day.
A Velveeta spokeswoman would not say why Velveeta products are not being shipped as fast as usual but did release a short statement to the Tribune saying,
“This is really a short-term issue that’s more noticeable right now given the increased seasonal demand,” Kraft spokeswoman Jody Moore said in an emailed statement. “We have not heard many complaints from consumers so far.”
Before you panic or call off your Super Bowl party, remember there are many other cheese brands that can be used the same way as Velveeta. While hardcore Velveeta fans may not think the store brand cheese products taste the same, you might just have to make it work if you find your local grocery store has no Velveeta on the shelves.
If you absolutely cannot live without Velveeta and can’t find it in any of your local grocery stores, you can always buy it on the web. Many chain stores including Wal-Mart and Target are selling Velveeta cheese online. Since it is a non-perishable good, it can be shipped to you safely.
How are you dealing with the Velveeta cheese shortage crisis and what are your favorite cheesy game day recipes?
