Last night was host to one of the best endings to a college basketball game in a long time. Tyler Ennis, arguably the best freshman in the country, made a last second shot in order to give the Syracuse Orange yet another victory in a close game.

The odds were totally against them going into the final leg of the game, with 4.4 seconds left, and having to go the entire length of the court. However, Tyler Ennis made the best play that could have possibly happened, dribbling up the court, and launching a 35-foot shot that luckily went in.

Syracuse won the game 58-56 in a tough defensive battle against the Pittsburgh Panthers. Both teams struggled to score against the other, and the final score reflected that. The game featured a couple of tough defenses that are used to playing against one another.

The game was a part of rivalry week, and like the first time the two teams played together in the ACC, it went down to the wire in a fierce fight. Up until this year, Syracuse and Pittsburgh were in the Big East, and have maintained a bitter rivalry for several decades.

Looking up at the shot clock, Tyler Ennis knew that he had just over a second left when he went to release the shot, and with all sorts of things going through his head at the time, after the game, he said “I definitely didn’t want to make a shot and not have it count. I wanted to get it up early and luckily that was the best opportunity that I had.”

The end of the game was certainly the most exciting, and due to the fact that Syracuse made a silly foul during what would likely be the last play of the game, they had only 4.4 seconds to move the ball down the court, and somehow managed to do it successfully to win the game.

On the final play of the game, Tyler Ennis delivered one of the most impressive plays in college basketball, and it might get people talking about him as potentially the best freshman in the 2013-2014 season, and possiblybetter contender for the John Wooden Award.

As Jim Boeheim said in an interview after the game, even after Ennis’ outstanding shot, he probably played his worst game tonight, and along with other stars like Trevor Cooney and C.J. Fair, the whole team found it difficult to score against their bitter rivals. Luckily, they were able to pull away in the end, and the stars stepped up when they needed to.

Following their last win in another close and exciting game, the Syracuse Orange have a record of 24-0, and remain the No.1 team in the country. While other teams may dominate opponents, Syracuse continues to make it interesting, finishing games with strong statements from their star players.
