Tia Mowry wants to dispel the rumor that she’s pregnant, and she would like her fans to know that although some of their inquiries come from a good place, the constant speculation that she’s expecting are now becoming jabs at her self-esteem.
Mowry, who has her own cooking show, says she’s merely happy and feels good about the way she looks, no matter what some have to say on the matter.
“I am not pregnant, I am just happy. I’ve gained these extra 10 [or] 15 pounds because of my cooking show. I’m just enjoying life, and when I want to drop the pounds, I will, but right now I’m happy with who I am. But it is a form of body shaming, I will say that, and it’s pretty unfortunate…We live in a society that is so obsessed with being perfect…why can’t we just be us?” she told HuffPost Live.
Mowry also said that the lack of support for women–particularly in Hollywood, where women are expected to look perfect at all times and competition is fierce–is harmful to everyone.
“We need to be more supportive with with everything. With body images, especially with women, showing that all sizes are beautiful. And I’m talking about in magazines, advertisement in regard to what’s sexy and what’s not sexy. We all need to be a little more supportive of each other. I think if we start there, we’ll see a difference.”
Tia isn’t the first actress to garner criticism for her appearance; Ashley Judd, Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter, and Amy Schumer have all fallen victim to the harsh words of fans and critics.
