The former police officer who shot and killed a man during a viewing of “Lone Survivor” in a Florida theater last year because he was texting was reportedly also texting right before the altercation.
71-year old Curtis Reeves got into a confrontation with Chad Oulsen during the movie because Oulsen was texting with his young daughter in the theater. After Oulsen allegedly threw a bag of popcorn at Reeves, Reeves pulled a gun and shot him in the chest, wounding Oulsen’s wife Nicole in the process. It wasn’t Reeves’ first time confronting a theater texter; after the shooting, a woman came forward and said she had gotten dirty looks and had been followed out into the lobby by Reeves in a threatening manner.
Reeves’ son Matthew told police that just before the shooting, he received a text from his father letting him know where he was sitting. He walked in moments before Oulsen was killed and attempted to save the man’s life, but Oulsen died from his wounds.
Reeves has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault, but has pleaded not guilty to both and says he acted in self defense. His attorneys say Oulsen struck him in the face, although witnesses say they never saw Oulsen hit him.
