The Walking Dead enjoyed an explosive premiere on Valentine’s Day that had millions of fans tuning in to find out the fate of their favorite characters. But a tiny, almost-unnoticeable event in the premiere may have foreshadowed who dies next, and if it’s true, fans are not going to be happy.
Caution: potential spoilers if you’re not caught up.
The show has consistently broken our hearts with the tragic deaths of major characters, and while fans understand that it has to happen sometimes–considering the world they live in now–that doesn’t make it any less devastating. When Glenn appeared to be gutted in a confrontation with a horde of walkers last season, fans went wild on the Web trying to decipher if it was really him and coming up with theories as to why it couldn’t be him. There was a lot of talk about loyal viewers never coming back if Glenn got killed off as well. Of course, it turned out to be a trick of the camera and Glenn is alive and well, but his fate is intertwined with the newest fan theory.
In Sunday’s premiere episode, fans noticed a car in the background of an important scene and began to wonder if it’s an indicator of things to come.

In the comic, Negan famously kills Glenn with his baseball bat. But the showrunners have been pretty adamant that the series is taking a dramatic turn from the storylines in the book, and besides, Glenn has already escaped death once recently. With the mysterious car in the background just as Daryl blows up some of Negan’s crew, the new theory is that Negan saw it happen and will come for Daryl with his bat.
Daryl Dixon is one of the most beloved and revered characters on television right now, so it’s tough to say whether it’s his time just yet. However, Norman Reedus is getting his own show on AMC, so this may be the way the show deals with his departure. Actor Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick on the show, said recently that the new season has messed with him pretty badly, leading fans to wonder whose death would upset him so much.
“I felt sick to my stomach when I read the script. It was the first day in the whole six years of working on The Walking Dead that I was late for work because I woke up in the middle of the night and I couldn’t get back to sleep. I was so angry and frustrated and I felt sick. And that was just after reading it,” Lincoln said.
