Since George Zimmerman was acquitted of first degree murder for shooting 17-year old Trayvon Martin in Florida a while back, he’s mostly been in hiding, because he’s received numerous threats from people who weren’t happy about the decision.
However, it seems he just may come out of hiding soon, and be in a celebrity boxing match, but that’s only if The Game gets his way.
The Compton rapper recently went on the celebrity gossip show, TMZ Live, to issue a boxing challenge to Zimmerman, and he says wanting to fight him has nothing to do with seeking personal justice.
“Anybody who had the opportunity and if you could do it, and if it was legal and there was no repercussion for knocking Zimmerman out, why not?” said Game.
“It’s not really about [the murder case] for me, because again, the Trayvon Martin case was sad enough, but justice needs to be served to his mother, his father and his family. I just think how Zimmerman is playing it and being a media-whore and looking for all this attention, that he shouldn’t be getting for these things, so if there’s a chance to box him I want in.”
In addition, Game says he would have no problem knocking Zimmerman out, which may be true considering the rapper stands at 6’5″ 240 pounds.
Damon Feldman, who’s a well-known celebrity boxing promoter, says the fight could actually happen, because Game has already sent him an email and made his request official. Feldman also spoke to Zimmerman and said that’s he’s willing to fight as well.
Reportedly, Zimmerman has been having some serious money issues since his acquittal and he’s been doing whatever he can to get out of deep debt, including selling a picture he painted for $100,000, so it’s likely that he would fight The Game if the price was right.
But will the match really happen? Time will tell, but it’s safe to assume that a lot of people would pay a high amount to see the two go toe-to-toe. I know I would.
