Being the King sure has its advantages.
The Miami-Dade Police Department has admitted that a few of their officers helped escort a traffic-weary LeBron James to a Jay-Z/Justin Timberlake concert last Friday night.
“Upon further investigation, it has been confirmed that the Miami-Dade Police Department did facilitate Mr. James from one intersection to another in the adjacent area of the stadium,” said the MDPD in a statement. “This was not a scheduled escort and although all safety precautions were taken, the department has identified these actions as a violation of departmental policies.”
It was deemed a “violation of departmental policies” most likely due to that fact that they officers took James down the wrong side of the road in order to expedite his journey.
“It was just one officer who was doing his job. He was radioed. He was asked to do something and that’s what he did, but unfortunately our department does not authorize us, in any way shape or form, to go in the opposite road against traffic,” an MDPD spokesperson told CBS 4 Miami.
They probably would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for LeBron’s bragging and those meddling kids of Instagram, who threw a fit when this video post hit KingJames’s feed:
The video has over 87,000 likes and 3,680 comments – some of them bashing James and the police for his star treatment.
Of course, some share this sentiment:
“This the shit I would be doing if I was a NBA player too.”
He later posted video from the concert, so at least he had a good time. Can’t say the same for the MDPD officer involved. He was reportedly working off duty and the MDPD says that “disciplinary action is possible.”
