A shooting at a Texas college has left students and nearby residents shaken.
While not many details are available at this time, it’s being reported that there was more than one gunman and that multiple people have been shot, although it’s not clear how bad the injuries may be.
Jed Young, a spokesman for Lone Star College, said that one of the shooters was shot and taken into custody. Another fled the scene.
Many described a scene of sheer chaos, with some students saying they heard shots fired around lunchtime between the library and cafeteria. A news bulletin on the school’s website alerted students and staff to stay where they were until SWAT team members could evacuate safely.
“LSC-North Harris is locked down,” the alert read. “Students, faculty and staff are advised to take immediate shelter where you are. Do not enter the campus until notified further.”
The post was later updated:
“LSC-North Harris campus evacuation is in progress. A couple of armed suspects reported.; injuries reported. Incident limited to LSC-North Harris.”
Since the devastating attack on Sandy Hook Elementary days before Christmas, there have been a rash of school shootings across the country, driving President Obama to begin lobbying for stricter gun control measures. As of right now, police have not released the names of the suspects or what their motive was.
