Teri Polo, best known for her role as Ben Stiller’s wife on Meet the Parents, has reportedly filed for bankruptcy.
According to federal court documents, 44-year-old Polo filled for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on April 14. She has a serious amount of debt, totaling nearly $1 million.
In the documents, Polo reveals that she owes an estimated $772,000 to the IRS and approximately $36,000 to credit card companies.
Polo, who is currently starring in the ABC Family original series The Fosters, is also being sued by her former landlord Ed McPherson, a celebrity lawyer, for $30,000.
McPherson claims that Polo moved out of her Los Angeles apartment, where she was paying $7,000 per month rent, and left the apartment in deplorable condition. He says that the carpets were ruined by dog feces and urine, and the fridge, which was not turned on, was left with rotting food that stunk up the entire apartment.
Polo became a well-known Hollywood face after her role as Pam Focker in the first installment of the comedy series Meet the Parents. She later reprised her role in 2004 in Meet the Fockers, and then again in 2010 in Little Fockers. She has also appeared on several television shows including The West Wing, Castle, Criminal Minds, and Law and Order.
Polo’s rep could not be reached at this time for media inquiries.
