It was inevitable, folks; a sequel to the insanely popular SyFy feature “Sharknado” is headed our way this summer, and both Tara Reid and Ian Ziering have signed on to bring it to us.
It’s an idea that’s been visited before in horror films; take everyone out of their element and put them in the big city. There’s something about seeing a familiar landmark either being destroyed or used as a backdrop for some sick stuff that captures our imaginations, and “Sharknado 2: The Second One” will likely have both.
“Sharknado was an extraordinary ‘perfect storm’ which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe,” said Thomas Vitale, executive vice president of programming at Syfy. “You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about Sharknado! By reassembling the creative team — and dropping sharks onto New York’s iconic sites — we’re unleashing yet another ‘fin’ wave of shark-mania.”
Reid had said last year, after the success of the first film, that she would be down to do a sequel. But she is aware that this isn’t the next “Citizen Kane” we’re talking about.
“This movie was so ridiculous, you know? Like it’s almost so bad that it’s good,” she said.
As well as the stars being on board, director Anthony Ferrante and screenwriter Thunder Levin have returned for the second installment. The movie begins shooting on February 13 in NYC and will premiere on SyFy in July.
