The Syfy network sent another show to its death: the North American Being Human has been canceled.

Being Human, based on a popular UK series of the same name that lasted for five seasons, follows a ghost, a vampire, and a werewolf. They live together and attempt to conform to human standards, while also facing off against their own demons, both literally and figuratively.

Syfy’s Being Human gave the network consistent ratings; it averaged about 1.8 million viewers its first season. This made it Syfy’s most successful winter scripted series since 2005.

The Syfy network, owned by NBC Universal, made this announcement earlier today about Being Human’s future:“Showrunner Anna Fricke and the talented producers, writers, cast and crew have done an amazing job bringing this show to life over the past four seasons and we sincerely thank them and the series’ production company Muse Entertainment for their hard work. They’ve saved the best for last with the final six episodes that revisit the story’s beginning, leading to a not-to-be-missed send-off for Aidan, Sally, Josh and Nora.”

Being Human’s cancellation may not surprise fans of the series. The entire season feels almost like a send-off even before it was made official. The plot has revolved around storylines that involved bringing back old friends and enemies, some of the major characters seem set to disappear for good (one way or another), and the house might be sold. It all felt very final. Now fans’ speculation can cease, because the show ends soon. However, it’s still a sad day for Being Human fans.

Being Human’s series finale airs April 7 on Syfy at 9/8c.
