Super food has become sort of a background buzzword for those looking to make 2016 the year that they will finally get their health in check.
However, the super food trends for 2016 contain a few surprises.
While salmon, kale and berries like acai and blue remain on the must-eat spectrum, this year will see more exotic fare, like seaweed, getting lots of attention.
Seaweed, according to The Fiscal Times, is “packed with antioxidants, fiber, iodine and good fats,” and is “in the spotlight as more nutrition-focused Americans search for the next super food.”
Are you set to become more nutrition-focused after the past month-or-so-long holiday binge?

According to Real Simple, seaweed is “packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which may prevent sudden heart attack and stroke. Seaweed is also full of important minerals, such as bone-friendly calcium and magnesium, as well as iron, potassium, iodine, and zinc.”
Sounds really great! But, for normal Americans, it can be hard to figure out how to work the exotic super food into a regular and fast-paced lifestyle.
Dawn Jackson Blatner, a registered dietitian, has an idea.
She said, “An easy way to incorporate seaweed into the diet is by taking sheets of nori—the kind they use for sushi—and layering on some cooked brown rice and sliced vegetables. Then roll it all together to make a quick lunchtime wrap.”
Well, doesn’t sound as good as a burger and fries, but if one is really determined to get healthy in 2016, it seems the new additions to the super food list are the way to go.
