If you are a constant follower/believer in, or have been involved with The Unification Church, I am sure you are aware of who Sun Myung Moon is. Moon was the founder and creator of the Unification Church, who died at the age of 92 on September 3rd, 2012.
Sun Myung Moon was born in 1920. This was a time when Korea was under the rule of the Japanese government, and born into a family who were followers of Confucianist beliefs; however, at the age of 10, his family converted to Christianity and became Presbyterian.
After World War II had ended, the Japanese occupation of Korea ceased, and Moon later had started to preach “The Divine Principle,” the foundation for what later became The Unification Church. He then married Hak Ja Han, another influential member in the creation of The Unification Church, and gave birth to 14 children .
In 1954, Moon founded the The Unification Church, which was called “”The Holy Spirit(ual) Association for the Unification of World Christianity,” and rapidly expanded to 30+ centers throughout South Korea, and by 1971, reached 500+ members in the United States as well.
During the 1970s, Moon and his family moved to America; however, remained a Korean citizen, and also continued to maintain a residence back in South Korea. During this time, Moon was well known for assembling large peace gatherings, both in Washington D.C., and in Korea as well.
On September 3rd, 2012, Sun Myung Moon passed away due to pneumonia in Seoul, South Karea at a church-owned hospital. Moon was 92 years old at the time of his passing.
