Stevie Nicks: Yeah, I Still Smoke Pot

Stevie Nicks is famous for one big thing, and a few smaller things.

Obviously she is one of the several — if not the biggest — voices in Fleetwood Mac. She rounds out the “classic lineup” of The Mac, which also includes Christine McVie (who is back again), Stevie’s ex Lindsay Buckingham, and Mac founders John McVie and Mick Fleetwood.

But Nicks is also famous for drugs and sex. The stories of who she has bedded in the business are many and varied. We make no claims here about what may be true or not. There are just a lot of stories. Some famous names that get dropped include: Don Henley of The Eagles, Dave Stewart of The Eurhythmics, and producer Jimmy Iovine may top the list.

But Stevie Nicks stories about drugs are things she readily admits to herself. Stevie Nicks did so much cocaine in her day that doctors warned her that she was developing a hole in her nose. Not one that is supposed to be there, either.

In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Nicks talks about her drugging years. They are behind her now, so she can talk.

“All of us were drug addicts,” she says. “But there was a point where I was the worst drug addict. . . . I was a girl, I was fragile, and I was doing a lot of coke. And I had that hole in my nose. So it was dangerous.”

In keeping with the times, Nicks does not look at marijuana as the “drug” that your parents were so freaked out over. She avoids coke like the plague, but a little weed is still on the table.

“When I’m writing, I will allow myself to smoke a little bit of pot,” she says. “It’s my one little thing that I can do. I use it as a tool, and I’m very careful, you know? And I get results. However, if I thought it was going to lead me back to something worse, I’d stop.”

In one other interesting tidbit, Nicks reveals one of the downsides to her fame: she can’t date regular people. One boyfriend ended up finding this out the hard way.

“One day, he came home and said, ‘I got two tickets for Bill Maher, will you go with me?’ and I’m like, ‘Are you insane? No. I’m not going. I’m famous! I’m Stevie Nicks! Everybody’s gonna spend the whole time taking pictures of us. And I can’t keep on making excuses about why you can’t go anywhere I can go. Like, can I take you to the Grammys? No. Can I go to the market with you? No. Can we go to a movie together in downtown Santa Monica? No. All we can do is stay in.'”
