Steve Nash’s future with the Phoenix Suns is still up in the air, so, technically speaking, Wednesday night’s game against San Antonio may be the last he plays with the team. Although there’s still a chance Nash will re-sign, the possibility seems highly unlikely since the Suns are currently in the process of restructuring the team. In the eyes of a lot of people, this was Nash’s final game with Phoenix, a squad he’s been a part of for seven seasons.
Towards the end of the game on Wednesday, those in attendance began to chant, “We want Steve!”, prompting coach Alvin Gentry to pull him off the bench. The crowd exploded, giving the beloved player a standing ovation. When Gentry pulled him out at the next dead ball, another ovation promptly ensued. If this is Nash’s last game with the Suns, at least he’s going out knowing that his fans still love him.
Unfortunately, Phoenix was unable to best San Antonio, losing the game 110 to 106.
“I just want our team to be as competitive as possible if I were to return. There are a lot of factors involved and I’ll get a chance to sit down and evaluate them all at some point,” Nash explained to the Arizona Republic.
Phoenix Suns fans took to Twitter, sending the veteran baller plenty of love and well-wishes. You can check out a smattering of these posts by having a look at the tweets embedded below.
