Subscribers to Electronic Arts (EA) and Bioware’s Star Wars MMO have been waiting months for many of the features that were promised at the launch of the game in December. Users won’t have to wait much longer, since Patch 1.2 for the game will be released to live servers on the morning of Thursday April 12th. The game servers will be down from 12:01 am CDT until 8:00 am CDT in order to deploy the patch. The “Star Wars: Old Republic” Website will remain available during this time, though. Different versions of patch 1.2 have been available for a few weeks now on Bioware’s public test server. According to Bioware, the patch will be a whopping 1GB in size, depending on when you last updated the game.
The patch is much-anticipated by players for the wealth of game-changing content it will bring. Additions to the game will include new armor types, guild banks, and new content for users to experience. Content updates will include a new “flashpoint” for up to 4 players, a new “operation” for 8 or 16 players to tackle, and new daily missions on the planet Corellia.
Player vs. player combat will be expanded in the patch with rated PVP, in which players will be ranked and matched against similarly skilled players. Players will be able to compete in a new “warzone” called Novare Coast.
Patch 1.2 is also the launch of a feature Bioware has been bragging about since last year: the “Legacy System.” The system will reward players with new abilities and perks for having and leveling-up multiple characters in the game. Players will be able to unlock “legacy abilities” based on their “family tree” of characters and their “legacy levels.”
The imminent release of the patch was announced on a blog post on the “Star Wars: The Old Republic” website. The post was linked to by The Old Republic Twitter account:
What do you think? Will Patch 1.2 bring more users on board with The Old Republic for good, or is it not enough to hold onto those subscribers who might be leaving to play Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2? Let me know in the comments below. In the meantime, check out the Patch 1.2 preview video shown at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference.
