Country singer Chely Wright announced on a web show on Wednesday that she and wife Lauren Blitzer-Wright are expecting twins.
The star, who made a highly controversial decision to come out in an area of the industry that isn’t known for its open-mindedness, wed Lauren in 2011. The couple haven’t given too many details on how they conceived, and Wright says that although twins were a big surprise, they are both looking forward to being parents.
“We’re excited to be parents and we hope we don’t mess it up too badly!” Wright said during the interview. “They’re due in July, but with identical twins you typically have to deliver a month early. So we are anticipating that I’ll be as big as a bus, or an A-frame house by around June.”
Both women say the process has been nothing but a learning experience and are clearly excited to move into this next chapter of their lives together.
“Even learning about the reproductive systems and how that works … you learn so many things,” Blitzer-Wright said.
The couple join comedian Rosie O’Donnell and her wife Michelle as new parents; they just adopted a newborn baby girl named Dakota.
