  • The man who was fatally wounded in a carjacking incident has been identified as 30-year-old Hokoben lawyer Dustin Friedland. Friedland was viciously gunned down on the third floor parking lot of the upscale Short Hills mall. The murder is said to have occurred on Sunday evening at around 9:00PM.

Friedland and his wife, Jamie, had returned to their car when they were confronted by two unidentified men. An exchange of words led to an unprovoked shooting. Friedland was shot in the head. It has been reported that he was shot while trying to defend his wife. Jamie Friedland was apparently already in the car when the soon-to-be fatal confrontation was taking place. The woman was not physically harmed in the attack.

After the police arrived to the crime scene, the mall was placed on lock down in case the assailants were still present. It was determined that they were already gone having stolen the couple’s silver 2012 Range Rover.

On Monday, the vehicle was discovered in Newark, New Jersey. The Range Rover had been hidden behind a boarded up and abandoned residence eleven miles away from where the crime took place. The rear window had been shattered.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray thinks its very possible that the crime occurred due to the perceived value of the Friedlands’ car. She also stated that police were currently doing everything possible to determine who was responsible for the shocking crime. An award of $10,000 has been offered by police in exchange for any leads that would help identify the men responsible. Anyone with any possible information is asked to call 1-877-847-7432.

Dustin Friedland was an athletic man who swam in high school and enjoyed going on runs. When he moved to Hoboken, the young lawyer soon joined the local runners club, the Hoboken Harriers. “He fit right in. He was very outgoing,” said Frank Magaletta. He is a Montclair attorney who ran with Friedland. “He was a real decent guy.”
