Did you watch the Syfy original movie Sharknado 2: The Second One Wednesday night? Did you talk about it on Twitter? Good for you – you’re just like everyone else. Nerd.
The B-movie series that has captivated a nation premiered its second installment last night, and if you go by the ratings and social media numbers, it took a bite out of the record books.
The official ratings are in, and Sharknado 2 had 3.9 million viewers last night. That makes it the most-watched movie in the history of the Syfy network. And in that coveted 18-49 demographic, Sharknado 2 garnered 1.6 million viewers, which is actually more that the original got on premiere night – total.

It appears that Sharknado 2 bested its predecessor by a huge margin – a pretty notable feat considering social media is mostly to blame (credit?) for Sharknado’s cyclonic thrust into the cultural zeitgeist in the first place.
According to Syfy, that large volume of tweets generated over a billion total impressions.
Twitter made #Sharknado2 so great. To the haters who say they refuse to watch bc it is dumb; Thats the point. Thats why we watch & have fun.

And that’s why Sharknado 3, which is already a go, will likely best this one.
While you’re here, enjoy Richard Kind teeing off on some baby sharks. If you watched the film, you know that the amount of cameos in this thing is off the charts.
