Shania Twain announced last year that she was quietly working on new music, but didn’t give many details because she was in the process of finding a producer. Now, she says that her success with a Las Vegas residency has given her the confidence to jump back in to her music career full force, and is in the middle of completing her first new album in 12 years.

Twain has been in Vegas for two years now, and says that she has loved the experience so much that she’s also planning a tour when the residency officially ends in December.

“I’m going to put some tour dates together and put it on the road and do some concerts because it was very exciting going to Calgary and Prince Edward Island recently. Being with these giant crowds was very exciting, and it’s motivated me to carry on doing that,” she said in an interview with the Las Vegas Sun.

Following a painful divorce from her husband–producer Mutt Lange–Twain says she lost so much confidence in herself and in her ability to sing after suffering problems with her voice.

“I especially became defeatist about the possibility of ever being able to really sing again because my voice was giving me so many problems. Not so much my voice, but the physiology around my voice was giving me a lot of problems, and I just wasn’t able to project my voice or have any real control, certainly not enough to sing properly or sound like me,” she said.

While there’s no release date yet, Twain says she’s excited and nervous to bring her songwriting back to the spotlight after such a long break.
