The search for a CEO may still be going on at Yahoo, but the company has acquired CNET editor-in-chief to become editor of its U.S. home page. This is pretty significant given that this is the most visited page on the Internet in the U.S. (according to Yahoo).
“Yahoo!’s homepage receives over 1 billion monthly clicks and 34 million daily visitors and sees more than twice the audience of the MSN and AOL home pages combined,” a spokesperson tells WebProNews.
“Yahoo! powers their homepage module through a Content Optimization and Relevance Engine algorithm (C.O.R.E), which publishes 45,000 variations almost every 5 minutes, totaling 10 million daily,” she adds. “Yahoo! CORE was created in Yahoo! Labs and combines deep science and scalable technology with the human editorial voice – the home page ensures the right content, to the right user at the right time.”
“As editor-in-chief at CNET, Ard has directed all editorial operations, including news, reviews and video content,” she says. “Throughout his 12 years there, Ard also served as a senior editor at CNET News, where he was initially responsible for launching and editing the CNET News financial channel. Prior to that, Ard was the managing editor of a technology magazine and spent a decade working in daily newspapers, where he covered business and technology.”
Ard is based in Yahoo’s hometown of Sunnyvale. He will begin his position on September 19, and will oversee editors in Sunnyvale, Santa Monica, New York and Dallas. He will also consult with international Yahoo sites about news coverage and packaging. He will report to Jai Singh, Editor-in-Chief of the Yahoo! Media Network.
