Scarlett Johansson is an actress, a mom, a wife, and a singer, too. The Lucy and Avengers star started her own girl band recently. Called The Singles, the group dropped their first single, dubbed ‘Candy, on Friday.
This isn’t the first foray into the music world for Scarlett Johansson either. In fact, she has performed in a music video, ‘When the Deal Goes Down,’ with Bob Dylan. She also released a cover album of Tom Waits tunes back in 2006. On the Tom Waits album, one critic compared her voice to that of Blondie’s Debbie Harry.
‘Candy’ is a catchy dance track, reminiscent of songs from the 1980s. The Singles might remind some of The Go Go’s.
“The idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls,” Scarlett Johansson said during a recent interview with Rolling Stone, describing her group’s sound as “ultra-pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke.”

In addition to Johansson, The Singles includes Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Julia Haltigan. Este Haim, the oldest of the Haim sisters, is the group’s drummer.
Scarlett Johansson married Romain Dauriac in October. A month earlier the couple welcomed daughter Rose Dorothy into the world.
Where does Scarlett Johansson find time to be a wife, mother, actress, and singer? She no doubt has some able-bodied help in the form of a housekeeper and nanny–don’t you think?
What’s your take on ‘Candy?’ Is there a future in the international music world for The Singles?
