Sarah Hyland, one of the stars of the immensely popular American sitcom “Modern Family”, revealed her lifelong struggle with kidney dysplasia in the latest issue of Seventeen magazine.
Hyland, 21, has struggled with the disease all her life. Despite the ongoing problem, the young actress hasn’t let these serious medical concerns control her life. Just last month, Hyland received a kidney transplant from her father, Edward James Hyland, in hopes that it would help turn her life around. So far, it would seem, so good.
In the issue — which hits newsstands and the like on May 22nd — Hyland explained, “You know that family is always going to be there for you—no matter what. My dad gave me a freaking’ kidney! But its also the families that you create outside of your family. And you really find out what kind of people you’re friends with. It was just amazing, and it really opened my eyes to see who’s there for me and who’s not.”
One person who has remained by her side through thick and thin is her boyfriend, actor Matt Prokop. “He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all the stuff that I need to do to take care of myself. Any other 21-year-old guy would not be there, I guarantee it,” she said of her beau.
