A U.S. Marine has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of a 20-year-old college student.
Cpl. Eric Jamal Johnson was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of University of North Texas student Sara Mutschlechner.
According to reports, Mutschlechner was shot in the head while she was driving her car. NBC Dallas Fort-Worth reports:
Witnesses told police Mutschlechner was in the driver’s seat of the sedan with three adult passengers when a black Lexus SUV drove up next to them. Words were exchanged between the occupants of the vehicles.
As both vehicles began to drive through the intersection at West University Drive, police said someone in the SUV fired multiple gunshots at the sedan, striking Mutschlechner in the head. The sedan ran into another vehicle and crashed into the electrical pole.
The shooting took place in the early hours of New Year’s Day. According to witnesses, some of the five or six men in the black SUV had attended the same New Year’s Eve party as Mutschlechner.
