Samantha Brick, writer for the Daily Mail, wrote an article yesterday posing the question: Why do women hate me for being beautiful? Within 24 hours she received responses from over 4,500 people that were divided into two camps. Some thought that she was arrogant for proclaiming that she was beautiful while others felt she was reiterating the story of their life.
Brick says that she was setting herself up for some impolite feedback by writing the article, “but thought it was a taboo that needed shattering.”
The writer listed several experiences where men she had never met before bought champagne for her table, purchased her train ticket, and made other flattering gestures. But she claims that beauty has made her life harder in other ways.
Brick says that her good looks have threatened friends in the past, and out of fear that she would steal their husband, the friend would stop associating with her.
Apparently responses from her readers, mostly from females, were more ferocious than she anticipated: “I’ve been lambasted on Twitter. Dragons’ Den judge Duncan Bannatyne has asked if what I’ve written is ‘a joke’, DJ Lauren Laverne tweeted about me all day (none of it nice) and countless so-called comedians have written unprintable things about me.”

While she is hurt and disturbed by the reaction she feels it only proves her point that pretty women get a lot more flack due to jealousy issues. Or does it?
Are the extremely negative reactions flowing out of the public because they think she is arrogant. Is it okay to beautiful, but only if the individual never agrees that they are?
