Rihanna and Chris Brown were, ironically, sort of like the Prom King and Queen at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards. He took home a trophy for Best Male Video, while she won the prestigious Video of the Year award. And, despite the troubles their history has seen, they clearly still have love for one another.
Rihanna saw Chris as she was exiting the stage and made a beeline over to him for a hug, which was caught on camera. The viewers at home didn’t see it, however, because the main cameras were trained on the stage.

After the violent episode in 2009 in which Brown assaulted Rihanna, fans and friends have been concerned that the two will make amends and get back together. And indeed, in a recent interview with Oprah, Rihanna admitted she still has love for Brown and that she was worried about him after the beating.
“I felt like the only person they hate right now is him. It was a weird confusing space to be in because to be as angry and as angry and as hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help, and who’s gonna help him? Nobody’s gonna say he needs help. Everybody’s gonna say he’s a monster without looking at the source. I was more concerned about him,” she said.
She denied, however, that the two were anything but friends.
“He’s in a relationship of his own. I’m single but we have maintained a very close friendship,” she said. “We’ve just worked on it little-by-little. And it’s not easy.”
