Rene Angelil was celebrated at a funeral at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal on Friday–the same church where he married Celine Dion back in 1994. It was broadcast live on Canadian TV.

Rene Charles Angelil, the 14-year-old son of Rene Angelil and Celine Dion, gave a poignant eulogy for his late father.

“Fifteen years is not a long time for a son to get to know his father,” René-Charles said in the eulogy. “You had a busy life, but we were communicating through golf, hockey, poker, smoked meat, and a lot of other wonderful food, bonding more and more as time went by.”

“You left me now with enough good memories of you to share with my younger brothers,” the teen continued. “As they grow older without you being around, I’ll make sure to pass on what I’ve learned from you. You are a tough act to follow, but with your help everything is going to be fine. Dad, I promise you here that we are all going to live up to your standards.”

The late Rene Angelil and wife Celine Dion are also parents to five-year-old twin boys, Nelson and Eddy. They attended the funeral with their mother and older brother, but weren’t spotted at the wake inside the basilica on Thursday. Rene Charles stayed by his mother’s side throughout the wake, as she greeted a countless numbers of mourners for much longer than planned.

Rene Angelil’s son from a previous relationship–Patrick–also spoke at his father’s funeral.

Rene Angelil died of throat cancer on January 14–just days ahead of his 74th birthday.

Celine Dion is no doubt very proud of son Rene Charles. He certainly honored his father by delivering his eulogy on Friday. Celine hugged Rene Charles once he was finished speaking.
