Randy Quaid--probably best known for his role as Cousin Eddie in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation--has sued the bail bond company that bailed him and his wife Evi Quaid out of jail when they were arrested in California on squatting charges back in 2010. Quaid has filed suit against the company saying he and his wife are now required to pay back bonds they never requested.

Randy and Evi Quaid were arrested in September of 2010 for squatting in the guest house of a property they once owned. They caused about $5,000 worth of damage to the guest house while allegedly squatting there.

It was only about a month later that the Quaids were detained in Vancouver by immigration officials. A California judge had issued a bench warrant for their arrest for a missed hearing pertaining to the squatting charges.

"The Quaids did not enter into a written agreement with American or its agent to provide the $50,000 bonds and did not agree to pay any sums to American or its agent in exchange for the bonds," their attorney wrote in court documents.

Randy and Evi Quaid are seeking restitution for lost wages and emotional distress in addition to the bail bonds.

Randy Quaid made news during the time of these arrests for exhibiting signs of what many believed was a mental illness like schizophrenia. That has never been proved.

In addition to his role in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, he also starred in the film Independence Day.

Randy Quaid is the older brother of actor Dennis Quaid.

Is it possible that this lawsuit is simply further proof that Dennis Quaid and his wife Evi aren't playing with full decks? Who sues the bail bond company that allows you to get out of jail? That's sort of akin to the old adage about biting the hand that feeds you.
