For months now Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have been the subject of breakup rumors. Shortly before the couple’s sixth wedding anniversary rumors began swirling about their relationship, some even suggesting that divorce could be imminent.
Throughout the media barrage DeGeneres and de Rossi have maintained a strong relationship publicly. The couple went as far as to combat the rumors with a high-profile condo purchase.
With divorce rumors settling down, new rumors have sprung up suggesting that the couple might be closer than ever. The latest talk has been that DeGeneres and de Rossi are looking to start a family and that a baby could be in their future. This time the rumors and tabloid headlines have become so pervasive that DeGeneres welcomed de Rossi onto her popular TV show to clear the air.
The couple sat down on The Ellen Show this week and discussed just how prevalent the baby rumors are. DeGeneres revealed that her assistant had to ask if she was keeping the baby a secret, while de Rossi had her brother subtly ask about the topic as well.
Despite their acknowledgement of just how much fans want them to have a baby de Rossi and DeGeneres cleared up the facts, stating that they are not having a baby. Of course, DeGeneres let her comedy instincts take over, playing with the notion that the couple was, even now, keeping a deep, dark baby secret.
“We’re not having a baby,” said DeGeneres. “Or are we? No, we’re not.”
With the rumors out of the way, the couple got down to the real point of The Ellen Show – entertainment. A satirical pre-taped interview revealed a bit of the couple’s relationship and later in the show de Rossi was dunked in water for breast cancer awareness:
DeGeneres and de Rossi began dating in 2004 and became engaged in early 2008. The couple were married in August 2008 when gay marriage was briefly legal in California.
