Yesterday, Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 will be launching in North America on November 15 and on November 29 in Europe. The reveal was the culmination of months of speculation and is, as of now, the start date for the beginning of the next-generation console wars.
When Sony unveiled the PlayStation 4 in February, it chose to show the DualShock 4 controller, but not the console case itself. Though it was assumed since that time that the controller would simply come in black for the foreseeable future, Sony has now announced that its PS4 controllers will be coming in new colors soon after launch.
Blue (“Wave Blue”) and Red (“Magma Red”) colored DualShock 4 controllers will be available in Europe on the PlayStation 4’s launch date (November 29). The red and blue controllers will also be coming to North America and Latin America sometime later this year.
Sony claimed in its announcement that these colors are the most popular colors for PlayStation owners. The controllers are actually two-tone, with red or blue fronts and black backs. The touchpads and buttons have also not been colored. Sony also stated that these are just the “first” color variations for the DualShock 4 controller, implying that other colors will be seen in the future.
