Let the debates begin. Esquire has declared yet another “sexiest woman alive.” This year’s sexiest woman is none other than Spanish actress Penelope Cruz.
Cruz is featured on the cover of the November issue of Esquire. The magazine features an extensive interview with the actress along with a photoshoot meant to demonstrate just why she might be the sexiest woman alive in 2014.
Cruz is no stranger to winning these types of awards. Last year Fitness Magazine declared that Cruz had the “best body” of 2013 and the actress is makes perennial appearances on other “hot” lists in a variety of magazines.

Cruz may seem like an odd choice at first glance. The actress recently turned 40, a milestone that, in Hollywood, can often relegate women to the category of has-been. Cruz, however, has seemed almost ageless throughout her career. Chris Jones, who interviewed Cruz for Esquire, calls the actress “impossibly beautiful” with “no physical flaws.”
Cruz is also not the oldest woman to ever win the “sexiest woman alive” title. That honor goes to Halle Berry, who was 42 when she was chosen by Esquire in 2008.
Cruz began acting over two decades ago at the age of 16 on Spanish television. From there she began acting in Spanish movies and has starred in a movie every year since 1992. In the early 2000s Cruz began the shift from Spanish cinema to Hollywood, gaining worldwide exposure in movies such as Blow and Vanilla Sky.
One factor that may have influenced Esquire‘s decision is that Cruz has never been afraid to show her body on-screen. The actress appeared nude in one of her first TV appearances in 1991. She also appeared topless in her first film, Jamón, Jamón, which she co-starred in with future husband Javier Bardem.
As stated in the Esquire interview, Cruz’s private life tends to be a mystery. The actress married Bardem in 2010 and the couple have two children.
