Penelope Cruz is mourning the sudden passing of her father. 62-year-old Eduardo Cruz died on Thursday of a heart attack.

Hello! magazine reports he suffered from a history of heart ailments.

Living in La Manga, Spain with his wife, Carmen Moreno, and their three-year-old daughter, Penelope Cruz’s father often accompanied the Pirates of the Caribbean actress to premieres and promotional events.

In addition to Penelope Cruz, Eduardo Cruz was the father of Eduardo Cruz, Monica Cruz, and three-year-old Salma Cruz.

Penelope Cruz, who is known for keeping her personal life fairly private, shared a bit about her childhood, growing up with her dad, during a 2013 interview.

“There was always music, and everybody was dancing, sometimes naked around the house,” she said of growing up in Spain. “Not hippie, but very free.”

Javier Bardem was spotted accompanying his wife Penelope Cruz to a funeral home in Spain on Friday, just a day after learning her father had passed away.
