Paris Hilton Slams Gays, Then Backpedals

Paris Hilton is in some hot water over comments which were allegedly recorded while she was in a cab with a friend, reportedly by the cab driver. And although recording someone without their knowledge is sketchy at best, Hilton is taking some heat for what was captured.

Apparently Hilton and a gay male friend were talking about Grindr, which Hilton wasn’t aware of. Her friend informed her what goes down on the site, to which she responded, “Ewww. Eww. To get f**ked? Gay guys are the horniest people in the world. They’re disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS…I would be so scared if I was a gay guy. You’ll like, die of AIDS.”

The episode went down during New York Fashion Week, which yields the question of why she was in a taxi cab in the first place, but more importantly, how does her gay friend feel about what she said? His response wasn’t captured, or if it was, it hasn’t been released. As only a snippet of her conversation was recorded, the context is non-existent; it might have been a poorly-worded joke at the expense of her friend.

Whatever her intention, it’s not gone over well with the gay community, and her rep released a statement on her behalf recently to address the issue.

Paris Hilton’s comments were to express that it is dangerous for anyone to have unprotected sex that could lead to a life threatening disease. The conversation became heated, after a close gayfriend told her in a cab ride, a story about a gay man who has AIDS and is knowingly having unprotected sex. He also discussed a website that encourages random sex by gay men with strangers. As she was being shown the website her comments were in reference to those people promoting themselves on the site. The cab driver who recorded this, only provided a portion of the conversation. It was not her intent to make any derogatory comments about all gays. Paris Hilton is a huge supporter of the gay community and would never purposefully make any negative statements about anyone’s sexual orientation.
