Olivia Newton-John had dated Patrick McDermott for about nine years when he disappeared in June of 2005. McDermott was reportedly on an overnight fishing trip near San Pedro, California when he allegedly fell overboard–never to be heard from again.

There were 22 passengers on the fishing trip, including Olivia Newton-John’s boyfriend, but no one saw him fall or jump overboard. Three years after he went missing, the Coast Guard said he likely drowned.

Now a new report from Australian Woman’s Day claims McDermott is alive and living in Mexico–and that he’s been there since the time of his disappearance.

Private investigator Philip Klein told the publication that Patrick McDermott both lives and works in the isolated Mexican village of Sayulita.

“Patrick’s probably now working in the yachting industry for a high-profile family down there,” Philip claims.

John Nazarian is the first detective to look into the disappearance of Olivia Newton-John’s boyfriend.

“It’s rumored he was with a German national. I spoke to people there [in Mexico]. The girl he was traveling with was described as having a German accent. To come up with the conclusion that he fell off the boat, and allegedly no one saw him fall off the boat, is the most preposterous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”

Olivia Newton-John was away on tour when McDermott disappeared. She didn’t file a missing persons report until a week later, when he didn’t show up to join her at a family event.

Three years after McDermott’s disappearance, Olivia Newton-John married John Easterling. Australian Woman’s Day reports she has always wanted to know what happened to “her beloved Patrick.”
