O.J. Simpson, who is diabetic and has been put on a strict diet by doctors, was caught stealing over a dozen oatmeal cookies from the lunch line in prison recently.

The 66-year old former football star is currently serving a 33-year sentence for armed robbery after he broke into a Las Vegas casino to steal sports memorabilia. A “source” told The Daily Mail that when guards noticed Simpson smuggling something under his clothing, they assumed it was a cell phone or some other type of contraband.

“So when the guard started pulling cookies out of O.J.’s shirt, the other inmates started laughing so hard they nearly fell over,” the source said.

Simpson put in a request for parole in July, saying he doesn’t feel the sentence matches the crime. He was convicted in 2008 and will still have to do four more years due to his multiple convictions, which include assault with a deadly weapon.

“The difference between all of their crimes and mine is that they were trying to steal other people’s property, they were trying to steal other people’s money,” Simpson said. “My crime was trying to retrieve, for my family, my own property. I missed my two younger kids who worked hard getting through high school, I missed their college graduations. I missed my sister’s funeral. I missed all the birthdays.”

Simpson was let off with a warning for the cookie incident.
