3DS fans, rejoice! You can now add “midnight purple” to your color coded DS collection. The new DS color will be launching with Mario Tennis Open on May 20th.
It will retail for $170.
Photos like this one (above) were leaked by retailers over the weekend, before Nintendo’s official announcement today. Sam’s Club had already listed it on their website last Saturday.
Joystiq released this photo incorporating an enthusiastic Grimace to help sell the new 3DS. Good idea. Maybe they will start handing out 3DS’ in Happy Meals next month.

This sentiment seems to be shared by a lot of DS owners. It seems like every time you make a purchase, Nintendo comes out with a new color or hardware upgrade. I guess they are banking on some extravagantly wealthy DS fans wanting to purchase multiple copies of their hardware. What they are really doing, is leaving all of their current customers disappointed in their purchase.
I, for one, have thoroughly enjoyed the Mario tennis games. Purple, on the other hand…
