Though the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was heavily promoted at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, there are now at least two different Ninja Turtles video games coming out this year.
Activision during Comic-Con announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a arcade-style beat ’em up side-scroller that is based on the new Nickelodeon TMNT series, including the cartoony art style. Feaaturing four-player local co-op and “multiple gameplay modes,” the title is aimed at new fans of the Ninja Turtles. The game will be released for Xbox 360, Wii, and 3DS on October 22 (the 23rd in Australia and the 25th in Europe).
This newly announced Turtles game is one of three video games based on the Nickelodeon TMNT series that publisher Activision announced back in February. A separate Ninja Turtles video game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, is a downloadable “third-person brawler” that is scheduled to release on August 28 as part of Microsoft’s Xbox Live Summer of Arcade promotion.
Out of the Shadows appears to be a slightly more mature take on the new Ninja Turtles series, as it carries the ESRB’s “Teen” rating instead of the newly announced game, which carries the “Everyone 10+” rating.
