New iTunes Coming Before the End of November

  • Apple first unveiled the all-new version of iTunes during their iPhone 5 event back in September. The completely redesigned iTunes was set to launch on September 19th, alongside iOS 6. As you know, that didn’t happen and Apple pushed back the launch to October.

Now, as October comes to a close, Apple has officially announced that the launch has been pushed back another month, to November. Exactly when in November is still unknown, but a spokesman told All Things D that it will definitely arrive before the end of next month.

Here’s what he had to say:

The new iTunes is taking longer than expected and we wanted to take a little extra time to get it right. We look forward to releasing this new version of iTunes with its dramatically simpler and cleaner interface and seamless integration with iCloud before the end of November.

Taking a “little extra time” to get things right is understandable, considering Apple’s recent Maps fiasco. That product (launched with iOS 6) shipped to users in a “not ready for primetime” status and prompted derision from users and a public apology from CEO Tim Cook. That apology seems to be at the root of a major management shift at Apple, which saw mobiel software head and 15-year-vet Scott Forstall relieved of his position.

When the new iTunes ships, it will come with a redesign layout, better playlists, new views for both the library and albums, a new mini-player, and better iCloud support.

As you can see above, Apple has already patched the “coming in November” tag to their official iTunes page.
