Assassin’s Creed III was a leap forward for the series in terms of setting, but many fans felt the game was a step backward in many ways. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is taking a small step backwards in time from it’s predecessor’s revolutionary Americas setting and, based on previews, appears to be offering more dynamic gameplay as well.
More specifically, Black Flag is looking like it could fulfill a major fantasy of many young men: being a pirate. The game will take place in the “golden age” of piracy, when pirates roamed the Atlantic and Caribbean. It’s the type of theme that the games’ motto of “nothing is true, everything is permitted” seems to have been crafted for.
Last week, Ubisoft released a long look at one of the massive sea battles and pirate boardings that players will encounter in Black Flag. This week’s new trailer shows off even more pirate gameplay, complete with a storm battle, a siege, and dead redcoats.
